Zach LaVine has revealed a funny story from his rookie season in the NBA. The guard wanted to wear No. 14, the number previously worn by his father and the one he had also used in college. However, the number belonged to Nikola Pekovic on the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“I tried to get 14 my rookie year. Pekovic had number 14. I didn’t ask him,” LaVine explained. The reason was simple: he had seen the massive Montenegrin center performing incredible workouts.
“He’s a 300-pound dude from Montenegro and he’s doing sets of 25 pull-ups. I’m not asking that dude,” LaVine joked. He ultimately chose No. 8 instead, partly because he was a huge Kobe Bryant fan.
