New details have emerged regarding Brandon Clarke’s contract following his tragic passing. According to Front Office Sports, the Memphis Grizzlies officially terminated Clarke’s contract on July 3, roughly seven weeks after his death.
Clarke had one season remaining on his four-year, $50 million contract signed in 2022, with a salary of $12.5 million for the 2026-27 campaign. However, because the contract was not insured in the event of death, that final season’s salary will not be paid to his estate.
His full 2025-26 salary, however, will still be honored. The remaining semi-monthly payments will continue through October 16 and will be paid to his estate according to the original payment schedule.
Sources also told Front Office Sports that Clarke had a life insurance policy, although it remains unclear whether the circumstances surrounding his death could affect any potential payout.
On August 7, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled that Clarke died from the combined effects of heroin and cocaine, classifying the death as accidental. The report also cited the combined effects of multiple prescription medications as a significant contributing factor, with the full medical report expected to be released at a later date.
