Lakers: Chris Paul emerges as a name to watch

The Los Angeles Lakers appear to be strengthening their long-term organizational structure under new ownership.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, head coach JJ Redick has already agreed to a contract extension following his rookie season on the Lakers’ bench. The new deal reportedly aligns with the contract timeline of general manager Rob Pelinka, reinforcing the franchise’s commitment to its current leadership.

Another intriguing development involves Chris Paul.

Speaking on ESPN, Ramona Shelburne identified the recently retired point guard as someone to watch because of his close relationship with new Lakers owner Bob Iger.

“There’s a couple names you should pay attention to: Chris Paul, a very close friend of Bob Iger’s. He’s sort of a mentor to Chris Paul. Chris recently retired. He’s available, an incredible basketball mind. I don’t know what that means for him, but I expect they’ll be talking.”

While no official role has been discussed publicly, Shelburne’s comments have fueled speculation that Paul could eventually join the Lakers in a front-office or advisory capacity as Iger and Josh Kushner begin shaping the franchise’s next era.
