Real Madrid are reportedly leading the race for Armoni Brooks. According to MARCA, the American guard could leave ASVEL Villeurbanne following the club’s major budget reduction, from an initial €59 million project to a projected €24 million budget.
Brooks, coming off two strong seasons with Olimpia Milano, had signed a major deal with ASVEL worth €2.3 million per season over two years. The French club’s financial difficulties have now put him back on the market, opening a race involving several European teams. Real Madrid are still looking for a scoring guard, and Brooks is reportedly the first name on their list.
Valencia Basket have also shown interest, while Maccabi, Crvena Zvezda and Partizan have been monitoring the situation. According to MARCA, however, Crvena Zvezda have withdrawn from the race and Real Madrid appear to be the best-positioned team. The main obstacle for the Spanish club remains Brooks’ non-EU status, as he would join Chuma Okeke and Damian Jones among Madrid’s ACB foreign-player options.
