Zach LaVine exercised his $48.9 million player option for the 2026-27 season, but his future with the Sacramento Kings remains far from settled. According to James Ham, the franchise has been transparent with the veteran guard that his roster spot is not guaranteed.
The Kings reportedly told LaVine that “all bets are off” after his opt-in, making clear that the organization will continue to make business decisions as it reshapes the roster. Sacramento is in a rebuilding phase, and LaVine’s contract remains one of the main situations to manage.
Ham added that if a buyout becomes the chosen path, it should happen sooner rather than later. For now, however, the Kings have not made meaningful progress toward such an agreement with LaVine.
