Mario Hezonja’s potential move to the NBA has hit a roadblock after the Croatian forward reached an agreement with the Cleveland Cavaliers a few days ago.
According to reports, Real Madrid has blocked the move, arguing that Hezonja did not exercise his NBA exit clause within the timeframe established in his contract.
The Spanish club also wants to retain his European rights, in order to prevent him from joining another EuroLeague team if a move to the NBA falls through. That scenario has reportedly been mentioned by Greek outlet Sport24.
Despite the dispute, according to Marc Stein, the Cavaliers remain determined to bring Hezonja back to the NBA and are currently working with Real Madrid to find a solution.
The Cavs and other teams have been pursuing Hezonja this offseason in hopes of capitalizing on a July 20 NBA out in his Real Madrid pact.
