Aleksander Sekulic is set to become the new Barça basketball head coach. FC Barcelona announced an agreement with the Slovenian coach, who will sign a contract through June 30, 2028 and become the first Slovenian coach in the history of the club’s basketball section.
Sekulic joins after coaching Dubai BC during the final part of last season. With the Emirati club, he made his EuroLeague debut in the final regular-season game against Valencia Basket and led Dubai to its first-ever ABA League title, defeating Partizan Belgrade in the finals.
The 48-year-old coach has also been Slovenia’s national team head coach since 2020. He led Slovenia to a fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, after the country’s first-ever qualification for the Games, and was an assistant coach in 2017, when Slovenia won EuroBasket.
