The EuroLeague summer market continues to deliver surprises, and Barcelona could be one of the teams most affected. After the departure of Moses Wright, who is set to join Olimpia Milano following the payment of his €900,000 buyout clause, the Catalan club now has to deal with growing interest in Toko Shengelia.
The Georgian forward has attracted the attention of several EuroLeague contenders, including Dubai Basketball, Fenerbahçe and Olympiacos, all of whom would have the financial resources to trigger the €1 million release clause included in the player’s contract. The report comes from Encestando.
Shengelia, who will turn 35 in October, has already won multiple domestic championships with CSKA Moscow, Virtus Bologna and Baskonia, but he has never managed to lift the EuroLeague trophy. The opportunity to make another run at the continental title could therefore play an important role in his decision.
Barcelona, which entered the summer with major ambitions and the goal of building a Final Four-caliber roster, has seen its plans change quickly. The departure of head coach Xavi Pascual, the decision to pass on Mike James and the downsizing of some market moves have altered the club’s original project.
