Brad Stevens explained the Boston Celtics’ decision to trade Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers. The president of basketball operations described it as a difficult move made to keep the team competitive, add flexibility and bring in draft assets.
“The path looked a little bit more challenging to me,” Stevens said, pointing to the salary-cap and usage weight tied to Brown and Jayson Tatum. Boston receives Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks in a deal that has shaken the fanbase after Brown won Finals MVP in the Celtics’ 2024 championship run.
Owner Bill Chisholm denied that the move was financially driven: “This was all about basically trying to win.” Stevens admitted the emotional weight of moving Brown, but stressed the importance of building depth around Tatum for the next phase of the franchise.
