Impressive numbers accompany the arrival in Scafati of Mezie Offurum, the first American player added to the roster entrusted to coach Piero Bucchi. A 203 cm (6’8″), 104 kg forward who turned 26 in May, he led Fribourg to the Swiss championship title in the recently concluded season, delivering superb performances: averaging 19 points in the regular season shooting 58.5%, which rose to 21.5 points per game in the playoffs; 6.8 rebounds that became 7.3 per game in the second phase; and a high of 35 points. Furthermore, he was named Player of the Year in Switzerland, Finals MVP, and the league’s Best Foreign Player.

“We were looking for a pure forward who could cover both the 3 and 4 positions,” reveals Enrico Longobardi, the club’s Technical Director, “so as to give us balance and stability in all situations. Mezie’s ability to perform regardless of his spot on the court convinced us to sign him and make him one of the most important pieces of our transfer market and roster. He will be an addition of great strategic utility that will ensure we can change our setup as needed, without losing quality in our play.”

Offurum had already showcased his technical skills during his college career at James Madison University. Then came his first senior championship in France with Chartres, followed by two years with Fribourg Olympic. Boasting great athleticism, excellent scoring abilities, and effective long-range shooting, he is also active on the glass. The American player’s ability to attack the rim, both in 1-on-1 situations and in transition, is one of his main strengths.

“I am very happy to play in Italy and wear the Givova Scafati jersey,” the player states. “An important season awaits us, but we know we can be the masters of our own destiny. I am ready to give my all for our fans and for this club. I can’t wait to begin this new experience.”
