The Chicago Bulls are finalizing the hiring of Tiago Splitter as the franchise’s new head coach, according to ESPN. The 41-year-old Brazilian will replace Billy Donovan after a successful stint as interim head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers.
Splitter emerged as the preferred candidate thanks to his reputation for player development, strong leadership, and alignment with the organization’s long-term vision. Last season, he guided Portland to a 42-40 record and a playoff appearance as the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference despite challenging circumstances surrounding the franchise.
The Bulls also interviewed Micah Nori, Ryan Schmidt, and Wes Unseld Jr., but ultimately decided to entrust the team’s future to the former NBA champion and rising coaching talent.
