Pierric Poupet is leaving ASVEL Villeurbanne as head coach. He confirmed the end of his time with the club after five years, telling Le Progrès: “Every story has an end. There are cycles of varying lengths, and in the world of the EuroLeague, that’s a good thing. Perhaps it was the right time.”
ASVEL finished last in the EuroLeague with an 8-30 record before losing to Cholet in the French League quarterfinals. “I’ve known for a while that it was the end, and I wanted it to end well. It wasn’t the ending I’d hoped for,” Poupet added.
According to Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews, Tony Parker is expected to take over next season and could earn around €1.2 million per year. ASVEL is also preparing a major payroll increase for 2026-27, with the budget projected to exceed €20 million and potentially reach €25 million.
