Chet Holmgren’s long-term role with the Oklahoma City Thunder has become a topic of debate after comments from Kevin O’Connor. The analyst highlighted Holmgren’s struggles against Victor Wembanyama, saying he could not defend him and looked uncomfortable offensively.
O’Connor noted that this was not an isolated issue. Holmgren is shooting 30% from three over his first 48 career playoff games and has yet to show real signs of becoming a shot creator or a reliable postseason scorer.
Still, O’Connor made clear that the answer is not a definitive no. Holmgren finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting, remains an excellent and versatile defender, and is only 24. But with his max contract about to begin and the Spurs viewed as OKC’s main rival, O’Connor believes the Thunder front office should at least debate his future.
