Žalgiris Kaunas will continue to rely on Ąžuolas Tubelis after the Lithuanian forward completed his debut EuroLeague season. The 24-year-old big man signed a new “2+1” contract extension that will keep him with the club through the 2028/29 season. The deal is guaranteed for the next two years and includes an NBA exit clause for the summer of 2027, as well as a buyout option before the third season.
Tubelis averaged 12.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and a 12.7 PIR in EuroLeague play, finishing as the team’s third-leading scorer and third-most efficient player. He elevated his performances in the playoffs, averaging 17.2 points and 18.2 PIR per game.
“I’m very happy to extend my contract. Žalgiris provides everything at the highest level — the arena, organization and support system are amazing. My job is to work hard on the court, and I think I did a pretty good job this season. A lot of people were happy with my performances, so I’m excited to stay here for a few more years,” Tubelis said.
Club president Paulius Jankūnas also praised the extension: “Our main goal was to keep a player like Ąžuolas for as long as possible. We saw his growth throughout the season, both as a player and as a person. I believe he still has huge potential and can become one of Žalgiris’ leading players for many years.”
