In the week leading up to the Final Four in Athens, Sergio Scariolo spoke with Giuseppe Nigro of *La Gazzetta dello Sport*. Here are some of his comments.

On the Final Four

“To be honest, in my career I’ve only felt like I had a Final Four-caliber team twice: in Malaga, not the year we made it but the year before, and this year, when we started to really click and were consistently among the top four. I’m happy with what I’ve achieved with all my teams. But it’s like when you play briscola—you need to get the ace and the three…”

On the injuries to Tavares and Len

“We’ve been hit by a tsunami with these two injuries that have completely disrupted our dynamics. On offense, we’ll have to be more aggressive; on defense, we’ll have to prevent the ball from getting into the paint easily, knowing that there’s no ‘Mastrolindo’ behind us to protect us. And then we’ll have to go hard on the boards.”

On NBA Europe

“Real is very active in trying to build a bridge between the EuroLeague and NBA Europe; they haven’t taken sides but understood from the very beginning that as long as there’s a chance for an agreement, we need to work together and all make an effort to achieve something together.”

“Then there will come a time—in a few weeks’ time—when we’ll have to make a final decision, but I think there’s still room to maintain a certain degree of unity for the good of our basketball, which means not squandering the EuroLeague’s legacy and not missing the opportunity to see the premier institution of our sport, which has expressed a desire to enter Europe.”
