Gordon Herbert will become the new head coach of the New Zealand Breakers, signing a two-year deal with the NBL club.
According to ESPN, Herbert, currently head coach of the Canadian national team, had been in talks with the Breakers for several weeks. He replaces Petteri Koponen, who left after two seasons.
Herbert is best known internationally for leading Germany to gold at the 2023 FIBA World Cup. He was later appointed Canada head coach for the 2027 FIBA World Cup and 2028 Olympics cycle.
At club level, Herbert most recently coached Bayern Munich in EuroLeague during the 2024/25 season. He now brings his experience to New Zealand, joining a Breakers franchise looking to rebuild.
