Luka Doncic will not play for Slovenia’s national team this summer in FIBA World Cup qualifying.
The Los Angeles Lakers star announced his decision on Instagram, citing family priorities.
According to Marc Stein, Doncic wants to spend as much offseason time as possible with his two daughters while he continues his effort to secure joint custody.
The decision means Doncic will step away from Slovenia’s summer commitments, at least for this window. He has long been the face and leader of the national team, making the announcement especially significant.
For the Lakers guard, basketball will take a back seat to personal matters this offseason. Doncic will focus on his family instead of joining Slovenia for FIBA qualifying games.
