Dimitris Giannakopoulos is once again at the center of EuroLeague controversy. The Panathinaikos owner could face sanctions following Thursday night’s incidents in Valencia during Game 2 of the playoff series against Valencia Basket.
According to Eurohoops, the events are being reviewed by the authorities and could lead to a punishment similar to the one he received after last year’s Final Four in Abu Dhabi, when he was handed a five-game ban.
A potential ban would prevent Giannakopoulos from attending the Athens Final Four, set to be played at Panathinaikos’ own arena. It would be a major institutional and symbolic blow for the Greek club as it chases its eighth EuroLeague title.
