Cooper Flagg has been named NBA Rookie of the Year after a narrow race with Kon Knueppel. The Dallas Mavericks rookie received 56 first-place votes, while Knueppel finished with 44 in one of the closest contests in recent award history.
At 19, Flagg became the second-youngest player ever to win the award, behind only LeBron James. He averaged 21.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists, joining Larry Bird, Michael Jordan and Luka Doncic in a historic rookie group.
Knueppel averaged 18.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists while setting the NBA rookie record with 273 made threes. “I was watching Kon just because that’s one of my brothers,” Flagg said after the announcement.
