As reported by ESPN, Marcus Smart was the key figure in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 101-94 win over the Houston Rockets in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series. With Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves still out, Smart finished with 25 points, 7 assists and 5 steals, making a huge impact offensively while also taking on Kevin Durant defensively.
The defensive detail stood out even more. According to ESPN Research, Durant shot just 1-for-3 and committed three turnovers across the 18 possessions in which he was defended by Smart, even though he ended the night with 23 points overall. That matchup became one of the biggest reasons the Lakers were able to grab a commanding 2-0 series lead.
LeBron James added 28 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists, while Luke Kennard chipped in 23 points. Houston, despite Durant’s return, was held below 100 points for the second straight game and shot just 40.4% from the field. The series now shifts to Houston for Game 3 on Friday.
