The Milwaukee Bucks and Doc Rivers are parting ways after three seasons, according to ESPN. The franchise is now set to begin its third head coaching search in three years, while discussions are ongoing about a possible advisory role for Rivers within the organization.
The move comes after a disappointing season in which Milwaukee missed both the playoffs and the play-in tournament. Rivers posted a 97-103 overall record with the Bucks and had to deal with major injury issues involving his top stars, with Giannis Antetokounmpo limited to 36 games in 2025-26 and Damian Lillard also missing time in previous playoff runs.
Since winning the 2021 NBA title under Mike Budenholzer, the Bucks have not won a playoff series since 2022. Rivers, a 2026 Hall of Fame inductee and the coach of the 2008 champion Boston Celtics, now closes a difficult chapter in Milwaukee, one also marked by a season-long disconnect with the locker room.
