The NBA’s latest ideas to reduce tanking have not truly convinced team owners. According to ESPN, the league presented three proposals at the recent Board of Governors meeting as discussion points, but none of them was received with much warmth around the league.
Commissioner Adam Silver is pushing for a quick reform, with the goal of putting new rules in place before next season and before the 2026 Draft. Silver said the final decision will need to be made at the ownership level because it carries business, basketball and integrity implications for the league.
The issue is that teams still do not agree on the problem itself: some franchises believe bottoming out and building through the draft remains the best long-term path, while others think tanking creates a harmful losing culture. That leaves the debate open, with more discussions expected in the coming weeks.
