Club Baloncesto Gran Canaria informed Jaka Lakovic in the last few hours that the partnership between the two sides is over, following the 95-109 defeat against San Pablo Burgos. The Canary Islands club has therefore chosen to make a coaching change at a very delicate stage of the season.
Lakovic ends his spell after four seasons, having coached 129 ACB games with 62 wins and 67 losses. The Slovenian coach still leaves behind an important legacy, highlighted by one EuroCup title, one final in the same competition and one Copa del Rey semifinal.
Even though Lakovic had said after the last game that he still felt “strong” and “supported,” the club decided to move in a different direction with a 7-18 record and nine rounds left to play. All signs now point to Néstor Che García as the main option to take over the bench.
