Austin Daye will retire at the end of the season. His club, the New Taipei Kings, announced the news, launching the “Daye & Night” event on May 3.

During his career, he won an NBA title with the Spurs, a league championship, an Italian Cup, and a FIBA Europe Cup with Venezia. He was named MVP of the LBA Finals in 2019 and the Frecciarossa Final Eight in 2020.

The son of the great Darren, a 6’9” forward, he graduated from Gonzaga in 2009. In the NBA, he played for the Pistons, Grizzlies, Raptors, Spurs, and Hawks; after a stint with Khimki, he arrived in Italy in 2015, saving VL Pesaro—where his father had won two league titles.

But his career is closely tied to Reyer Venezia, where he arrived in 2018 after stints with Galatasaray and Hapoel Jerusalem. After leaving Venice in 2022, he played a brief portion of the 2023 season in Pesaro. He has played for Taipei since the 2022-2023 season and continues to do so from 2024 to the present.
