Houston is on track to return to the WNBA. The Houston Rockets announced that Fertitta Entertainment has entered into an agreement to purchase the Connecticut Sun, with plans to relocate the franchise to Texas and bring back the historic Houston Comets name. The transaction is still subject to league approval.
According to the official announcement, the franchise is expected to begin playing at Toyota Center starting with the 2027 WNBA season. The move would mark a major symbolic return for Houston, a city that already holds a special place in league history through the original Comets era.
The development is also significant from a business standpoint, as it further expands the Fertitta footprint in professional sports. The next step is formal approval from the WNBA before the relocation process can be completed.
