Georgia booked their place in the Second Round with a perfect 2-0 back-to-back against Denmark: an 89-71 road win followed by an 89-60 victory in Tbilisi. The sweep means Denmark can no longer catch Georgia in the standings, sending Aleksandar Dzikic’s team through once again.
In the home win, Tornike Shengelia delivered 27 points and 11 rebounds (plus 5 steals), while Marcquise Reed led the scoring with 29 on 13-of-19 shooting, adding 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Aleksandre Merkviladze chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds as Georgia controlled the game throughout.
The result also pushed Spain through regardless of Monday’s outcome, since Denmark can finish only 2-4 at best and Spain already had three wins entering their final game of the window. Georgia’s consistency in this qualification format continues after culminating in a World Cup berth in 2023.
