The Middle East crisis is hitting the basketball world as well. Rising geopolitical tensions and the resulting closure of regional airspace are causing significant logistical disruptions, directly impacting several key EuroLeague figures.
According to reports from Meridian Sport, the situation in the United Arab Emirates is critical: airports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are currently closed, and air traffic across the region is at a standstill. This paralysis has grounded several athletes and coaches who were in the region, leaving them unable to return to Europe as scheduled.
The biggest name among those stranded is undoubtedly Sarunas Jasikevicius. The Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul head coach is currently in Dubai, waiting to see when he can return to lead his team’s operations in Turkey.
However, the Lithuanian coach is not the only one facing these uncertain hours. Also per Meridian Sport, Partizan Belgrade’s Dylan Osetkowski, Shake Milton, and Dwayne Washington are reportedly stranded in Dubai, alongside Maccabi Tel-Aviv’s Lonnie Walker IV, Jimmy Clark, and Iffe Lundberg, who find themselves in the same situation.
