The bond between Giannis Antetokounmpo and European basketball has never been broken, despite the absolute dominance he has displayed overseas. During the All-Star Weekend press conference, the “Greek Freak” made a statement that caught the attention of industry insiders: his intention to eventually join a potential NBA Europe project as an owner.
When asked about the possibility of leading a franchise in the Old Continent, Giannis didn’t mince words:
“Being an owner? 100%. If an opportunity to become a sports owner ever came across my desk, I would consider it 100%.”
Whether behind a desk or on the sidelines, Antetokounmpo’s future will remain tied to the hardwood. “I love basketball, and anywhere that I can be involved with it, I would love it,” he explained. If a career as an owner doesn’t take off, Giannis isn’t ruling out other paths: “I could transition to a coach or I could transition to an owner.”
The idea of an NBA expansion into Europe has been a recurring theme in recent years, and having an ambassador (and potential investor) of Giannis’s caliber could be the turning point to transform the project into a reality.
