Joel Embiid missed the Philadelphia 76ers’ 138-89 loss to the New York Knicks due to right knee injury management and will be reevaluated after the All-Star break. According to ESPN, Embiid felt soreness following Saturday’s win over the Phoenix Suns, when he posted 33 points in 33 minutes, and he also sat out Monday’s game in Portland.
Sources noted the soreness has decreased, but the organization is banking on prolonged rest during the break to give Embiid the best chance to be ready for the stretch run. Head coach Nick Nurse said that a week of treatment and staying off his feet can benefit anyone who is “a little sore and dinged up,” including Embiid.
After a slow start, Embiid has surged over the past two months, averaging 26.6 points and 7.5 rebounds across 31 games this season. The Sixers return to action on Feb. 19 at home against the Atlanta Hawks, while already missing Paul George, who is serving a 25-game suspension for violating the NBA anti-drug policy.
