Shock for Galatasaray: club slams referees after Fenerbahce loss

Shock for Galatasaray: club slams referees after Fenerbahce loss – the stunning press release following the game.

Galatasaray, coached by Gianmarco Pozzecco, suffered a defeat in the Turkish league against Fenerbahce, with the game ending 79–77 in favor of Sarunas Jasikevicius’ team.

During the game, Galatasaray complained about the officiating due to several inconsistent decisions and what the club perceived as a lack of equal treatment between the two teams by the three referees. Below is the shocking statement released by Galatasaray at the end of the game.

“In the 19th round of the Turkish Basketbol Süper Ligi, in the game we played against Fenerbahçe Beko, the inadequate, incompetent and insufficient officiating crew appointed by the Central Referees Committee of the Turkish Basketball Federation effectively butchered the game with a biased and inconsistent performance from start to finish.

Throughout the match, offensive chants and unsportsmanlike behavior from the stands were tolerated, while the announcement made in the final minutes of the game went no further than an attempt to cover up the scandal that had taken place. The fouls called with extreme ease in favor of the opposing team, compared to the fouls not awarded to our team, are a clear indication of the injustice and double standards on the court.

At this point, it is quite clear that Recep Ankaralı, head of the Central Referees Committee and known for his hostility toward Galatasaray, is unable to fulfill his duties. We expect the federation authorities to urgently take the necessary actions to remove this individual and chief referee Özlem Yalman from basketball arenas.

Despite this serious injustice, we are proud of our players who fought honorably on the court, never gave up, and defended the Galatasaray jersey. We invite our fans to stand by our team with full support for the remainder of the season. United, we will fight together against this injustice.

Galatasaray will never take a step back in its fight for justice, neither on the court nor off it.
