On Sunday afternoon, the Target Centre understandably had a strange and subdued atmosphere. Despite the Golden State Warriors’ clear victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves by 111-85, with a margin of nearly 30 points, the game took a back seat to what was happening outside the arena, on the streets of Minneapolis.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr acknowledged this after the game, saying that there was an unusual atmosphere in the arena, filled with sadness.
‘Honestly, the feeling I got was that their team was suffering,’ Kerr said, according to ESPN. ‘What you felt in the stands was one of the strangest and saddest atmospheres I’ve ever experienced in a game. There was a sombre mood. Their team was shaken by everything that was happening and what the city had been through. It was very sad. It was a sad night.’

Before the game began, the Timberwolves observed a minute of silence in memory of Pretti. During that moment, some fans shouted slogans against ICE from the stands.
Protests were also reported on Sunday around the Target Centre, but the game was played without incident.
‘It’s very difficult to see so many people sad and affected,’ Kerr concluded. ‘They came to the game to try to forget what’s going on, but I think for the city and for their team, nothing has really gone away. They were paying the price for all of this.’
