The Dallas Mavericks won’t let their spot in the standings influence Kyrie Irving’s return timetable, according to head coach Jason Kidd. Irving is continuing his recovery from the torn ACL he suffered last season, and Dallas will bring him back only when he’s ready.
“That has nothing to do with it,” Kidd said when asked whether the team’s record will factor in. He added it’s about Irving being mentally and physically able to play “at the highest level” in his own mind.
Kidd said Irving is eager to get back on the court, but emphasized that coming off an ACL is “a time thing,” and players want to feel 100 percent both mentally and physically. Kidd noted Irving is progressing well in those areas and that “at some point, there will be a schedule.”
