Sources told ESPN that Jalen Brunson called a players-only meeting after the New York Knicks were blown out at home by the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night. Multiple sources said Brunson’s message was that the team must find answers internally.
Brunson stressed the Knicks needed to address their poor January play among themselves rather than look to the coaching staff for solutions. After the game, he said, “It’s either we do it, we care enough to do it, or we don’t.”
New York opened 23-9 and won the NBA Cup in December, but has fallen to 25-18 with an offense in the league’s bottom five in January. Josh Hart said, “We all need to do some soul-searching… we’re playing embarrassing basketball.”
