Ja Morant offered brief but telling comments about his future with the Memphis Grizzlies, acknowledging ongoing trade speculation and admitting that it is something he simply has to accept.
Speaking to reporters during Memphis’ European trip, Morant responded cautiously to questions about potential trade talks, saying that he has to “live with it.” According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Grizzlies are entertaining trade offers for Morant for the first time since he became the franchise cornerstone. Multiple teams are monitoring the situation, with rival executives believing Memphis would prioritize draft picks and young players in any potential deal.
Return still uncertain amid injuries
Morant said Wednesday that he will “hopefully” play this week in Europe, as the Grizzlies face the Orlando Magic in Berlin and London. If he does, it would mark his first game action since January 2. During practice, Morant was seen in an animated exchange with teammate Vince Williams Jr., highlighting the intensity surrounding the team amid the rumors.
The 26-year-old guard has missed five consecutive games due to a right calf contusion and has appeared in only 18 games this season overall. His limited availability has been caused by a series of injuries, as well as a one-game suspension following a postgame exchange with head coach Tuomas Iisalo in November.
Contract situation adds another layer
Morant remains under contract with Memphis through the 2027–28 season, but his long-term future is far from settled. He is eligible this summer to sign an extension worth up to three years and $178 million, a decision that could heavily influence both the Grizzlies’ strategy and the league-wide trade market.
For now, Morant is focused on returning to the court. But with Memphis openly listening to offers, his short answer says it all: the uncertainty is real, and he knows he has to live with it.
