The NBA fined Chris Finch $35,000 on Sunday for “directing inappropriate language toward game officials” and “failing to leave the court in a timely manner” following his ejection.
The discipline stems from Friday’s 112-107 win by the Minnesota Timberwolves over the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
Finch was ejected in the first quarter after losing his temper on a play in which Julius Randle attacked the rim against Isaiah Hartenstein and missed without drawing a whistle.
He chased referee John Butler, received a first technical, then picked up a second during the break to trigger the ejection.
Finch had to be restrained by assistants and team security before leaving the floor to a loud ovation with 6:19 left in the first quarter.
After the game, Anthony Edwards and assistant Micah Nori credited Finch’s fire for helping the Wolves hand the Thunder their third loss of the season.
