There aren’t many high-level big men left outside the top tier of European basketball, so it’s no surprise that Chris Silva ’s impressive start to the season with AEK Athens has generated significant interest.
According to various Greek outlets, the 29-year-old Gabonese forward/center has an exit window in his current contract only from January 1 to 17. During that period, he can leave for an NBA or EuroLeague offer upon payment of a buyout fee estimated at around €200,000.
Israeli reporter Tomer Givati has identified Fenerbahce, Barcelona and Maccabi Tel Aviv as among the teams closely monitoring Silva’s situation.
Silva is averaging more than 15 points and 7 rebounds per game across the Greek League and BCL, shooting an impressive 71% from the field and 82% at the free-throw line (on seven attempts per game). On Wednesday, he delivered his best performance of the season: 31 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks against Olympiacos.
