Ettore Messina becomes advisor to Olimpia Milano. A new manager will be appointed in the future

Alessandra Bocci, journalist for Gazzetta dello Sport, analyzes the change at the top of Olimpia Milano in an article entitled: “It’s over. Messina shock: ‘I resign’. Olimpia, the Poeta era begins.”

The article contains at least two interesting points. The first specifies that Ettore Messina: “will no longer be coach and president of basketball operations: he will remain with the club, for the time being, as personal advisor to Dell’Orco, the man who, together with Armani, had backed him for many years, giving him carte blanche on the market.”

La Gazzetta thus confirms its suggestion from yesterday, namely a role as advisor, no longer as President Bop, with an eye on NBA Europe: “In the background, there is also the issue of NBA Europe, which is fundamental to the Milanese club’s image. Messina, with his international experience, would be the perfect link between two worlds, the NBA and Milan, which he has been involved with for so long.”

The future is therefore likely to be very different from the end of the season, given that Club President Leo Dell’Orco: “will play an even more central role in decision-making, at least until a technical figure is found: this is precisely why Messina’s relationship with Olimpia continues, albeit in a different capacity.”

And at the end of the year, Ettore Messina’s future could lie elsewhere: “But it’s not certain that a coach-manager with his experience won’t have other offers on the table.”
