Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups is set to appear in Brooklyn federal court today to enter a plea in a criminal case accusing him of fraud and money laundering tied to a mafia-linked poker game-rigging scheme.
Prosecutors allege Billups and others used X-ray tables and altered shuffling machines to cheat victims out of more than $7 million since 2019. The 49-year-old, currently suspended, has denied all wrongdoing through his attorneys.
The case also involves ex-NBA player Damon Jones and alleged members of La Cosa Nostra, all of whom have pleaded not guilty. It’s part of a broader investigation into bet-rigging in U.S. sports, as authorities tighten scrutiny on gambling-related corruption.
