ESPN reports Dallas could benefit from moving its veteran stars post-Harrison firing

Following the firing of Nico Harrison, the Dallas Mavericks are reassessing their roster direction. According to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst, trading Anthony Davis and/or Kyrie Irving is considered the optimal strategy for the franchise’s rebuild.

Dealing either star would allow Dallas to bottom out this season and pursue a top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, which they fully control — a rare opportunity before 2031. It would also help the Mavs gain future draft capital and create salary flexibility for long-term planning around Cooper Flagg.

However, age and injury concerns could make fair trade value difficult to obtain, with Davis also extension-eligible next year. For now, Dallas hasn’t made a move, but a major reshaping of the roster appears likely.
