On Tuesday night, the NBA announced major changes to the 2026 All-Star Game, which will take place at Intuit Dome in Los Angeles starting February 13, 2026.
A new format titled “USA vs. The World” will debut, featuring three teams of eight players each — two American squads and one made up of international players. Positional designations will be eliminated: starters and reserves will be chosen solely based on vote totals, regardless of position.
If the final player pool doesn’t meet the 16 Americans / 8 internationals ratio, commissioner Adam Silver will be allowed to add players to balance the rosters. As in previous years, each conference will contribute 12 players — five starters and seven reserves — with starters selected through a combination of fan, media, and player voting, and reserves chosen by coaches.
For the first time, the All-Star Game will air on NBC as part of the network’s Winter Olympics coverage.
The event will feature a round-robin format with three short games among the teams, followed by a final between the two best squads.
