Dinamo Banco di Sardegna is proud to announce a preliminary agreement with Achille Polonara, pending medical clearance, for his highly anticipated return to Sassari. After six remarkable seasons across Europe with Baskonia, Fenerbahce, Efes, Zalgiris Kaunas, and Virtus Bologna, Polonara is ready to wear the Dinamo jersey once again.
This agreement underscores the deep bond between Polonara and the club—built on mutual respect and trust—and reflects Dinamo’s belief in his ongoing recovery and future contribution. The club is confident Achille still possesses the qualities and leadership that made him one of the most respected Italian players on the international stage.
The negotiation was shaped by the strong personal ties between Polonara and club executives Stefano Sardara (President), Francesco Sardara (CEO), and Jack Devecchi (GM), whose consistent support played a key role in finalizing the deal.
Once recovered, Achille will return to the familiar and supportive environment of Sassari, continuing his journey within a team and fanbase that holds him close. His comeback evokes memories of his stellar seasons with Dinamo between 2017 and 2019, highlighted by a FIBA Europe Cup title and a near-Scudetto win, achievements that laid the foundation for his EuroLeague career.

PLAYER PROFILE – Achille Polonara
Born on November 23, 1991 in Ancona, the 205 cm forward began his career with Stamura Ancona before rising through the ranks at Teramo Basket, making his Serie A debut in 2009/10. Twice named Serie A Best Under-22 Player, he won a U20 European silver medal with the Italian national team in 2011.
He played for Varese and Reggio Emilia—winning the Italian Supercup in 2015—before joining Dinamo Sassari in 2017. There, he helped the team win the FIBA Europe Cup and reach the 2019 Serie A Finals. His performances earned him a move to EuroLeague, where he won the Liga ACB with Baskonia and the Turkish Championship with Fenerbahce, also playing for Efes, Zalgiris, and Virtus Bologna.
In 2023, after undergoing surgery for testicular cancer, he made a rapid return to the court, showing his incredible resilience. He also contributed to Virtus’ 2024/25 title-winning season, averaging nearly 7 points and 4 rebounds in Serie A.
Polonara has 94 caps and 596 points with the Italian national team, participating in two EuroBaskets, a World Cup, and the Olympic Games.
