The Sacramento Kings seem to be the only team seriously in the running to sign Russell Westbrook.
The NBA MVP of the 2016–17 season, after a year as sixth man with the Denver Nuggets, is still a free agent, and after almost two months of free agency, the only serious offer he appears to have received is from the Sacramento Kings.
However, there’s a problem. Before signing Westbrook, Sacramento needs to free up cap space. As of now, though, the attempted trade for Kuminga seems to have stalled, and that trade would have allowed the Kings to unload the hefty contracts of Monk and Devin Carter.
So, before sealing the deal with the former Thunder point guard, Sacramento will absolutely need to find a way to clear salary cap space.
