NBA free agent Malik Beasley, currently under federal investigation for alleged gambling violations, was evicted from his Detroit high-rise apartment on Wednesday, according to court records.
Beasley’s landlord filed two separate lawsuits against him this year in Michigan’s 36th District Court over unpaid rent totaling $21,505. The first case was dismissed in March, but in the second — involving $7,355 — the court issued an eviction order after Beasley failed to respond. He had no attorney listed in the eviction case. Steve Haney, Beasley’s lawyer in the gambling probe, confirmed he is not handling the eviction matter.
Recent social media posts suggest Beasley has been traveling in Europe. The 28-year-old is the third NBA player in the past 18 months to be investigated by the Eastern District of New York for gambling-related allegations. The claims relate to the 2023–24 season, when Beasley played for the Milwaukee Bucks. He has not been criminally charged. “An investigation is not a charge,” Haney told ESPN previously. “Malik is entitled to the presumption of innocence.”
Beasley was coming off a strong season with the Detroit Pistons and had been in talks for a three-year, $42 million contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania, though negotiations are now on hold. Over his nine-year NBA career, Beasley has earned nearly $60 million.
He also faces a lawsuit from his former marketing agency, Hazan Sports Management, which claims he has failed to repay a $650,000 advance. Additionally, The Detroit News reported in July that Beasley owes money to a celebrity barber, a dentist, and a bridge-loan provider for pro athletes.
