Nikola Mirotic officially signs with Monaco a two year deal

Nikola Mirotic is officially a Monaco player. The Principality club announces the Montenegrin superstar with a two-year contract.

Nikola, why did you choose Monaco as your destination?
Monaco is a club that has been at the top of the Euroleague in recent years and has the potential to grow even more. I wanted a new challenge, I still feel capable, and that’s why I decided to sign here.

You’ve met with the president several times. Can you tell us about those discussions regarding you and your arrival in Monaco?
I had the chance to meet the president on several occasions. He’s a man with great vision and very devoted to his basketball team. He’s willing to do a lot to see the Roca Team reach the top of European basketball.

What do you think about the club’s rapid rise on a European scale?
What Monaco has achieved in such a short time is simply incredible, and I truly believe – and hope – that the future will be bright. From their very first moments in the Euroleague a few years ago, the team has shown it can perform at a high level, always qualifying for the playoffs and even reaching the Final Four twice.

Have you already spoken with Coach Spanoulis? What do you think about his philosophy?
Yes, I’ve spoken with Coach Spanoulis about our vision of the game, what he expects, and how he sees things. I’m really looking forward to getting started, meeting new teammates, and learning more about Vassilis Spanoulis’ coaching philosophy.

You know the Euroleague very well. Would you say the competition is tougher than ever?
It’s true that my first season in the Euroleague was 15 years ago, back in 2010. Now, after 15 years, I can say the league is much more competitive and demanding. All teams can compete, with rosters built to go all the way. The ones who manage to be the most consistent – as we’ve seen in recent seasons – will go the furthest.

You’ve experienced excellence in both the NBA and the Euroleague. What are the most notable differences from the inside?
The difference between the NBA and European basketball is undoubtedly the physicality and individual performance. There’s no doubt that the NBA is the best league in the world, but the truth is that it’s thanks to the European players playing today – and those who came before them – that the NBA is what it is today.

Do you remember your career-high in the NBA?
Yes, I set my career-high against the Sacramento Kings in 2018. That night, I scored 36 points, and it was definitely an unforgettable day for me.
