Club Joventut Badalona and Ricky Rubio have reached an agreement for the upcoming season, and the Catalan point guard will defend the Penya colors until June 30, 2026. Sixteen years later, Ricky and Joventut are reuniting with the goal of enjoying success together once again.
Ricky Rubio (10/21/1990) is a unique talent at the point guard position, standing at 189 centimeters tall. Since his debut at just 14 years old with Penya’s first team, the Masnou native has always been known as an extraordinary playmaker, with a unique vision of the game and the ability to create his own shots, as well as being a very intelligent player on the court, a great defender, and with a great ability to recover balls.
His extraordinary professional career began on October 15, 2005, when, at just 14 years old, he made his ACB debut in Granada. Aito García Reneses took a chance on a young man who amazed the basketball world from the very beginning. Defending the green and black jersey until the summer of 2009, with Ricky on the team, he experienced the last golden age of La Penya, winning the FIBA Eurocup in 2006 and the Copa del Rey and ULEB Cup in 2008.
Away from Badalona, Rubio played for Barça for two seasons, winning the Euroleague in 2010 and the ACB in 2011. In 2012, he made the leap to the NBA with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he played for six seasons. He then moved on to Utah, Phoenix, Minnesota again, and Cleveland, before taking a break to take care of his mental health. In March 2024, with Barça, he completed what has been his last season as a professional to date.
In terms of national team achievements, Ricky Rubio has a unique record, including gold at the 2019 World Cup as MVP, two golds at Eurobasket (2009 and 2011), and an Olympic silver in Beijing (2008).
But beyond the numbers and achievements, Ricky is a player born in Masnou who has loved, loves, and will always love La Penya. Sixteen years after his last game wearing the Joventut jersey, Rubio will once again defend the colors of a team where he is a legend, a role model, with a clear goal: to smile again playing the sport he loves most: basketball.
