Shai Gilgeous-Alexander didn’t hold back his emotions after becoming an NBA champion. Following Oklahoma City’s 103-91 Game 7 win over Indiana, he called the moment “amazing” and a “relief.”
“There was so much weight off my shoulders,” he said. “So much stress relieved.”
At 26, he capped a phenomenal season by winning the regular season MVP, Finals MVP, and scoring title. “It’s hard to fathom sometimes that I’m that kind of player,” Gilgeous-Alexander admitted. “But I’m just thankful my dreams came true.”
He praised GM Sam Presti, head coach Mark Daigneault, and owner Clay Bennett for building a “winning environment.” “It’s no fluke we’re here,” he said.
He shared a quiet, emotional moment with Tyrese Haliburton after the Pacers star went down early. “I just asked if he was okay. My heart dropped for him. Competition isn’t always fair.”
Reflecting on the Thunder’s young core, he added: “We still have room to grow—and that’s the fun part. This is a great start.”
For Shai, what mattered most wasn’t the accolades: “All the achievements don’t compare to winning with your brothers.”
Asked what he’d tell his child about sacrifice, his answer was simple: “If you want something, go get it. You can if you want it.”
