Giannis Antetokounmpo appears to rule out the possibility of leaving the Milwaukee Bucks via trade, in comments made during an interview with Coast to Coast Brasil.
When asked about the NBA Finals, the Greek star replied:
“Two great teams made it, two great teams… Indiana, with my friend Pascal Siakam, is now reaping the rewards (of his arrival from the Raptors), and on OKC’s side, they have the MVP… Who am I rooting for? Just hoping to see some good basketball, that’s all… The Finals are something else — I hope to be back there soon with the Bucks.”
UPDATE: It seems the tweet containing this quote — already picked up by several U.S. media outlets — has been deleted from Coast to Coast‘s account.
Giannis also addressed the lack of recognition he sometimes receives compared to other players, despite being the only NBA player with three seasons averaging over 30 points on 60% shooting from the field.
“I’ll be honest with you — sometimes I stop and think about it. You don’t play the game for accolades, but it’s always nice to get some recognition… but in the end, who cares? I can’t control what others think. But as you said, the numbers are there — in sharp contrast to the narratives that are often pushed. The only thing I can control is my effort, and based on that, I know I’m one of the best in the league.”
Finally, Antetokounmpo shared his excitement about the new All-Star Game format: “You know, the NBA actually stole my idea! Anyway, yes — Team World is ready.”
