Legendary coach Gregg Popovich will not be returning to the San Antonio Spurs bench anytime soon. Popovich, who stepped down temporarily after suffering a mild stroke on November 1, is still in recovery and progressing steadily.
“He’s making progress week by week,” Spurs GM R.C. Buford said. “We don’t know when he’ll be ready, but he will be back at some point.” For now, interim coach Mitch Johnson will remain at the helm as the Spurs attempt to recover from a tough stretch of six losses in their last seven games.
