In just his third 7DAYS EuroCup game ever, Pierre Pelos led JL Bourg en Bresse to ambush one of the biggest names in continental basketball and thereby earn his club’s first MVP of the Week honor. Pelos, a 28-year-old center, registered team highs of 28 points and 7 rebounds in Bourg’s resounding 76-89 road victory over Partizan NIS Belgrade on Wednesday. His shooting was near perfect – 8-for-11 inside, 2-for-2 on the arc, 6-for-6 at the foul line – and he played 25 minutes without a turnover to amass a 33 performance index rating, tops among all EuroCup players this week. Right behind him with a 32 PIR was Josh Adams, who scored a career-high 24 points in still-unbeaten Segafredo Virtus Bologna’s 76-95 road win at Telenet Giants Antwerp. Adams missed only 2 field goal tries and dished 4 assists. Joventut Badalona center Simon Birgander stitched together 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 assists for the week’s third-best PIR, 26, as his team stay undefeated with a dramatic 91-93 overtime road win at UNICS Kazan. Another Bourg starter, shooting guard Danilo Andjusic, came next with a PIR of 25 based on his 23 points and 10-for-11 free throw shooting against his former team, Partizan. Tying him for week’s fourth-best performance was Jordan Morgan of UNICS, whose 23 points on 10-for-13 two-point shooting were not enough for his team against Joventut.
Individual highs: Bassas, Joventut, 13 assists
Pelos of Bourg was the top scorer of the week with 28 points while Andjusic sits atop the season-long scoring leaders with 21.0 per game. Alan Williams of Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar was again the week’s best rebounder, with 13 boards, just as he leads the competition with a whopping average of 11.8. Ferran Bassas of Joventut dished 13 assists this week, the most this season and tying the most in the last two years. Justin Cobbs of Buducnost VOLI Podgorica and Milos Teodosic of Virtus both average a league-high 8.0 assists per game. Six players made 4 steals each this week; they are all chasing Partizan’s Codi Miller-McIntyre, with 3.0 per game, for the league lead. Birgander’s 4 blocks for Joventut were the most of the week, while Danny Agbelese of Promitheas Patras has edged ahead for the season-long lead with 2.3 per gam
