<strong>New York Knicks<\/strong> are navigating a challenging contract extension negotiation with <strong>Karl-Anthony Towns<\/strong>, with the two sides reportedly still significantly apart on the value of a new deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Jake Fischer of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/nba\">Bleacher Report<\/a><\/em>, the Knicks are <strong>\u201cfar more interested\u201d<\/strong> in signing Towns to a contract closer to <strong>four years and $200 million<\/strong> rather than the <strong>four-year, $276 million<\/strong> extension for which he is eligible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Towns willing to take less than the maximum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Towns is reportedly prepared to sign for less than his maximum extension, but the two sides remain far apart on the value of the deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If they cannot reach an agreement, Towns could become an <strong>unrestricted free agent in the 2027 offseason<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Knicks looking to manage the second apron<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New York continues to deal with <strong>second-apron<\/strong> salary-cap concerns and would like to reduce the impact of Towns\u2019 <strong>$61 million player option for the 2027-28 season<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Towns is entering the final stage of his previous <strong>four-year, $220 million supermax extension<\/strong>, which he signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Towns coming off an All-NBA season<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Towns was named to an <strong>All-NBA team in his first season with the Knicks<\/strong> and played a key role in New York\u2019s <strong>2026 championship<\/strong> run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
